About the Adventure Travel Buddy App

It all started with Livio, who has been trekking in Nepal (and the rest of the world) for over 20 years. As part of that activity, he began to write an independent outdoor travel blog (Realworld Adventures) and shot videos (2.4+ million views on his YouTube channel 3minute Adventures).

In every trekking season Livio searched for trekking buddies (generally with Post-it notes in cafe’s) and was successful 50% of the time. Then a few years ago he decided that a more robust solution was needed so he created the mobile app called “Trekking Nepal”.

The Trekking Nepal app included Nepal treks, DIY details (tracks, maps, etc) and finally a forum feature for a trekking community to ask questions and search for trekking buddies. The app also included additional resources, such as the summary data related to the Lonely Planet Trekking Nepal Guide with links back to the Lonely Planet site for deeper descriptions.

Last year the app expanded to include worldwide trekking coverage and once again included treks from his blog site Realworld Adventures and the ability to to import data from other sources, such as Cicerone’s High Point of Europe Guide (with links back to the guide for more details).

And then finally Livio became passionate about bikepacking, which he had dabbled in over the years (Tibet, Canada, France, Uganda and Tazie in early 2025). Once again, the app was expanded, this time to include bikepacking trips worldwide and a community forum for members to find bikepacking buddies.

But that was not the end of the game. Livio keeps adding new stuff, like the new "User Stories" forum. App users get to post their social media handles to share their adventures and find new friends in the community.

The app is now re-branded as the Adventure Travel Buddy app in the Apple, Google, Amazon, Samsung and Huawei app stores.

The plan is to continue adding external data sources for import into the app (with links back) and promotion of the community sharing and buddy finding capabilities.
